CHINA TOWN Restaurant, Islamabad
China Town is a customized stand Alone restaurant on three levels in sector F-7in Islamabad. Chinatown is one of the oldest restaurants in Islamabad. When it changed location and management after over twenty years in operation to F-8/1, it needed a brand new identity and a building, which stoodout, as it is located away from the commercialdistrict in a residential area surrounded by small shops and a school. Our brief required us to design a modern Chinese restaurant, which had a tradition Chinese flavor but reflected the fusion of culture in the interior and architecture similar to its cuisine.
It is unique as a restaurant as it is vertically integrated with the kitchens in the basement serving the three levels through dumb waiters. The ground floor is a formal lounge with customized furniture and accessories imported from China. All other materials are of local origin drawing on Chinese vocabulary and local stones and wood from North Pakistan.
Chinese motifs are incorporated in stone floors, carved in wood and embroidered into upholstery and lighting. The walls are fair-faced concrete with Chinese letters screen printed on them. Lights and screens are custom detailed and hand crafted. Chinatown has been published widely in Pakistani as well as Indian architecture and Design Magazines.
